Mattapan Branch Library (first) is established.

Originally the Mattapan Library Association, it is founded by Increase Smith and subsequently opens a reading room in the Oakland Building. A branch library opens in a new building on Hazleton Street (second) in 1931,* and the current branch (third) on Blue Hill Avenue opens in 2009.*
